31 January 2003
The first week back...... Its always good to be back teaching after the holiday break. This first week back has been especially exciting with existing students freeing themselves from the withdrawal symptoms of not singing for a while, and many new students fulfilling a personal passion some have wanted to pursue for years. Those new students who are wanting to make singing a career also have an exciting year ahead! Good news to hear the following this week.... * Melanie Munt was offered a place into WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) Apparently they have many people audition each year and she was 1 out of the 2 girls who got a place from Adelaide. Singing is a large component of the course and we are glad the 2 years she spent at LHSS paid off! * Mandy Giles, who is featured on the front cover of the Showcase 2002 Programme, joined the Adelaide band Fresh through our Studio. They are a cover band and do mainly top 40's and 80's music and are performing regularly. Ken plays guitar and sings, Mandy & Jasmine share the vocals and Matt is their keyboard player. *LHSS student Graham Loveday will be performing in the Northern Light Musical Theatre Company 's production HMS Pinafore. * Susan Brooke-Smith is doing G & S production of The Mikado and of course: * Our teachers Katie & Allison have leads in Marie Clarke's production of The King & I to be held later on in the year. Break a leg guys! Singer wanted A female singer is required

25 January 2003 Staff meeting Our annual Occupational Health & Safety Staff Meeting was held this week at the new home of teacher Miranda Simonetti, which she just recently had built. We had the opportunity to not only go through these Policies, Procedures and our Occ. H & S Manual, but also to review 2002 and plan for the year ahead. Some interesting points were made regarding our Showcase 2002 concert to improve on it for this year. Lastly from our LHSS Teachers Manual, we looked at our section on "Vocal Warm-ups', the importance of them, why we do them and how to teach them in the most effective way. Successes Through our contacts, LHSS student Mel Drabic successfully auditioned for the lead singer of the duo 'Wild Fever'. They are leaving for Seoul, Korea in April 2003 for a 3 month gig at the Sheraton Grand Hotel with the possibility of a further 3 months. Good luck guys! Singer wanted A female singer is required to join the already performing successful male/female Cabaret/Rock duo Double Standards.
Their specialty is 50/60/70's Rock'n'Roll with the 60's being the dominating era. The main criteria for the singer is:
All equipment for a good quality sound and lighting show is provided. If you are interested please contact John Welsh on (08) 8370 2468 or 0407 804 050. |

You are most welcome to attend the ceremony and join us for coffee afterwards. My wonderful fiance has been a tremendous support and help to me over the past 3 year. He is very talented in many areas, including that of designing websites. The LHSS website gives testimony to this! Please visit his website at: http://www.pinnacleweb.com.au/ The staff and I look forward to resuming lessons for the year this Tuesday 28 January. It is going to be another great one! 18 January 2003 As we enter 2003, we are planning for an exciting year. Business Awards This is the year we plan to enter a few 'Business of the Year' Awards. We were fortunate to win a business award in the first few years of operating. If I hadn't been so busy over the past 5 years getting the staff and business to the point where it is at now (that is, running itself) I would have entered more. No time like the present though! Journal Articles Something else I have wanted
to do with a passion for the last 5 years is write articles for industry
newsletters and journals. This is the year! I'll enjoy writing these for
two Associations of which I am a member: the Music Teachers Association
of South Australia (MTASA);
and the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS).
I aim to shed light on a few subjects which may be new and of interest such as operating a Music Business as a 'business' and technical articles on vocal techniques. Keep watching this space. I'll put them on this page when they're ready! Term 1 The Studio reopens for the year on Tuesday 28th. Over the last few weeks until then, we are conducting our no-obligation trial lessons for those who wish to confirm their choice (and learn more about singing lessons and our Studio). Katie and Alli have been inundated with these. The three of us have really enjoyed being back at work! New Teacher Speaking of work, Lisa Simonetti, one of our longest attending students-come-teacher, is joining the teaching staff this year after 18 months of training. She shows a real aptitude towards teaching kids in particular and is excited about teaching this year. She is proving herself to be a great one! Computer Upgrades Next week, in the office we are adding a new computer to our network to help us manage the ever-increasing admin. In addition, a computer 'kiosk' will also be in the waiting room so students, parents and friends can view our Showcase 2002 Concert, Showcase 2002 photos and professional photos taken November last year at the Orange Lane Studios, and of course this website. I look forward to keeping you updated and sharing with you our news and experiences at the Studio regularly (we're aiming for weekly updates at this stage). So please keep watching this page, keep in touch, and email me with any comments.
14 January 2003 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! Look out for articles from the LHSS COMING SOON in the Messenger Newspapers. |
