Leanne Hoad established the Leanne Hoad Singing Studio (LHSS) in 1995 when she saw gaps in the knowledge of singing teachers.
This was primarily due to the lack of a course for training singing teachers in Adelaide; a situation which continues to this day.
Consequently Leanne wrote, and constantly updates, a "How to Teach Singing" manual for LHSS teachers to study in preparation for teaching at the Studio.
What we refer to internally as our "Teachers Manual" is a live, working electronic document, several hundred pages long and constantly updated, which is the backbone of our intranet and outlines our teaching approach at the studio.
Our Teachers Manual is a distillation of knowledge, teaching and thinking from many of the world's leading singing teachers and highly respected voice experts, complete with multimedia content including audio training CDs, movie clips and DVD teaching examples.
Leanne's vision was, and remains, to encourage singing teachers and singing studios to operate in a professional business manner. Putting into practice what Leanne wished to achieve, Leanne has pioneered business practices not previously seen in singing Studios.
Leanne has published articles and has been asked to speak nationally on the subject of "The Business of Singing"
Our Philosophy
We always endeavour to understand why a given technique works physiologically and how to apply it correctly.
We believe that if a teacher does not understand the physiological reasoning behind a technique, the risk of passing on incorrect (or worse, harmful) techniques and wrong ideas to a student is greatly increased.
In our view, the use of mainly empirical (or 'hit and miss') teaching methods, at best, limits the students' ability to reach maximum potential and, at worst, may lead to long term damage.
If any of our current teaching methods are shown to be incorrect, or require modification, in the light of scientific research then our teaching material will be reviewed and updated and our staff will be re-trained.
Where there is scientific evidence to support certain techniques we believe that it should be acknowledged and applied to the teaching process.
At the LHSS we are always open to the latest sound methods of teaching from various sources around the world in our effort to maintain the highest level of teaching and achieve the best results possible from the students.
To teach at the LHSS, teachers are required to undergo an extensive inhouse training programme taking up to 12 months.
This equips them with the knowledge, skills and teaching techniques irrespective of their past degrees, qualifications and experience. This ensures the standard of teaching is at its peak and is consistent across the team regardless.
Professional Development
We place great emphasis on the continual professional development of our teaching staff to ensure that our students receive the best and latest training available.
This includes keeping abreast of current worldwide developments in voice and singing tuition, reviewing and revising our teaching skills at local and interstate seminars and conferences and constantly updating our technical knowledge through professional associations and publications.
As well as being performers in their own right, our dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive teachers offer professional singing lessons in a caring, friendly and comfortable environment.
