Yes. Singing is a learnt skill.

As a student at the Leanne Hoad Singing Studio you are not expected to know how to sing until you've been taught. We will teach you everything you need to know. If you haven't had any experience other than singing in the shower, this is for you.

If you have had a little experience this is also for you. The personalised attention you will received means everyone will benefit from the group class.

We offer professional singing lesson in a caring, comfortable environment so if you are new to singing we will look after you!

We are dedicated to make you feel comfortable. We understand that you may be nervous and will quickly help you relax, especially if you are a beginner.

Step by step we will explain and demonstrate each step of singing, answering any questions along the way.

Our aim is to bring out your voice like you couldn't imagine while singing songs that you enjoy.

A CD recording of each lesson can be purchased from the Studio for $2.50.

Parents are invited to sit in on lessons twice a term. We let you know of these dates in advance.

Vocal technique

Like most things, singing is a building block process. You will start with the basic techniques of singing and move onto the more advanced ones as you are ready.

All lessons are taken at your pace and the actual content of lessons will depend on students requirements and progress.

We start each lesson covering the technique you need to sing. We start from basics and add to these. After the teacher has expalined the techniques, they have everyone do them together (to avoid embarrasement). We then show you how to apply the same techniques to suitable songs.

The techniques covered are:

• breathing
• breath control
• singing in tune
• low and high note
• creating the best tone (sounding voice)
• vocal warming up and cooling down
• vocal health
• how to sing different styles of music
• how to sing in harmonies (part singing)
• how to use the microphone

Songs

You will sing songs you'll enjoy. This is determined by the likes and personal preferences of the age group.

When we are confident you have a good inderstanding and can apply the basic techniques, you will learn to sing harmonies. This 'part singing' is a lot of fun.

To keep it fun, we have a Music Catalogue of over 16,500 songs to choose from. These include the lastest songs on the charts and from the movies. Check out some of the beginner songs we do in the Adult Beginners Course.

To keep lessons fun and interesting students are welcome to suggest songs.

The teacher chooses easier songs to start with so students can practice and consolidate the vocal technique they are taught.

• Call the Studio on ph 8364 0773 to confirm your place in the course. A $50.00 deposit is required to confirm the booking. The easiest way to do this is by credit card over the phone. Cash, Cheque, EFTPOS, major credit cards are also taken.
• A confirmation letter and Tax Invoice with all details of the course and payment will be posted to you.
• You arrive 15 minutes earlier on the first lesson to pay the balance of the fees and to fill out an enrolment form

We like parents to be updated. We will invite you to sit in on the lesson once or twice in every 10 week block of lessons.

We tell parents in advance when these 'Parent Updates' are.

We are great with beginners.

If you have no previous experience (which is the case with most of our students) we will teach you all the singing techniques you need to learn how to sing.

Our emphasis on technique means that you will soon hear the improvement in your singing voice regardless of the standard you begin with.

Four times a year the Studio holds small Performance Practice Concerts. The give those who want to start performing an opportunity to do so with the group.

The Studio's Showcase Concerts are a full scale production in december each year. They are the highlight of the Studio year. They give everyone the opportunity to perform in some capacity, according to the student's ability and experience.
