Performance Opportunities

Beginners

If you're looking to perform for the first time, haven't sung in a concert setting before, or just want to practice singing in front of people then this is for you.

Workshop
If this is your very first time performing, you'll start with the Workshop from 6.30 – 8.15pm. You'll then perform to your family and friends at 8.30pm.

Once you have done a Workshop, you can do as many of the concerts as you wish until you are ready to do the concerts for Intermediate singers.

Venue
The new purpose-built “Concert Room” at the Leanne Hoad Singing Studio.

Workshop (performers only)

  • Practice singing in front of people – start getting over the hurdles of performing in front of an audience.
  • Do physical and vocal warm-ups – prepare yourself to give you the confidence to reach all the notes.
  • Practice stage presence – how you come across from the moment the audience see you, such as staying in character, walking on and off stage, introducing yourself etc.
  • Microphone and PA system – get the tips and practice using the mic as well as understand how to use the foldback and PA system to your advantage

Concert
  • Sing in a gigging environment – the Studio's purpose built Concert Room will give you the experience of singing in a live venue while getting skilled in using mic and foldback.
  • Get friendly, supportive feedback from your teacher– you'll receive a comment sheet and verbal feedback.
Intermediate Singers

Perform live in the Studio's purpose-built Concert Room. These concerts are for our singers to get practice and the confidence performing in front of a live audience, using industry standard gear.

You can do as many of these as you need.

If you are new to performing you would start with the Beginners Performance Opportunity Workshop and Concert. This Intermediate Concert is the next step. Combined with other singing opportunities we offer at outside venues, you

will get the performing experience you need to sing with confidence:

  • Sing in front of a live audience – get over the hurdles of singing in front of people. Get better at introducing, presenting and performing the song- entertaining the audience completes a good performance.
  • Sing in a gigging environment – the Studio's purpose built Concert Room will give you the experience of singing in a live venue. You'll go though your songs before the concert at the rehearsal, while getting skilled in using microphones and foldback.
  • Get feedback – you'll receive a comment sheet and friendly, supportive verbal feedback from your teacher.

Performing Tips
  • Your performance starts as soon as you walk on stage. Enter and exit with confidence
  • Avoid fidgeting when performing-you may be nervous but don't show it!
  • Personalise your performance- when introducing yourself add your reason for singing the songs you have chosen
  • Dress appropriately- you want to make a lasting impression
  • Give a convincing performance-know the character and understand the lyrics-act it out!
  • Don't place unnecessary focus on the microphone. Seamlessly take the mic in and out of the stand and don't let it or the lead appear to get in your way- it is to work for you, not against you!
